How Does TRON Work?

TRON uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism. TRX holders can freeze their tokens to obtain "Tron Power," which allows them to vote for "Super Representatives" – the 27 block producers that validate transactions on the network. These block producers receive TRX rewards for verifying transactions.

TRON acquired BitTorrent, one of the world's largest peer-to-peer file sharing protocols, in July 2018 – significantly expanding its ecosystem.

What is TRX Used For?

TRX serves multiple purposes within the TRON ecosystem: paying transaction fees, staking to earn bandwidth and energy resources, voting for Super Representatives, participating in TRON DeFi protocols, and minting the USDD algorithmic stablecoin. TRX is also widely traded on crypto exchanges against USD and other currencies.

TRON vs Ethereum

TRON is often compared to Ethereum as both are smart contract platforms. Key differences include: TRON offers higher transaction speeds (up to 2,000 TPS vs Ethereum's ~30 TPS), lower fees, and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility. Solidity developers can deploy their Ethereum smart contracts directly on TRON with minimal modification.

Is TRON a Good Investment?

TRON has shown significant price appreciation since its launch, growing over 16,000% from its all-time low. However, all cryptocurrency investments carry substantial risk. TRX is highly volatile and its price can change dramatically. Always research thoroughly and never invest more than you can afford to lose. For the current TRX price, see our live price page.
